    A painter and graphic artist, she engaged in painting and drawing from a young age. Until 1909, she attended the Hamburg School of Applied Arts (graduating with a teaching diploma in drawing). Until 1918, she was a periodic student of Lovis Corinth. From 1919 to 1930, she was a member of the Hamburg Secession. In 1925, she studied in Paris and Chartres. From 1912, she worked in an expressionist style. Linocuts/woodcuts, 1919-21. Etchings and poster designs in collaboration with her husband Emil Maetzel, inspired by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. She is considered one of the most important Hamburg female painters of her era. ...
