    Edmund Carl Ferdinand Maria Steppes was a German portrait and landscape painter, graphic artist and specialist author born in 1873 in Burghausen district of Altötting in Bavaria. From 1882 Steppes was in Munich. Initially from 1891-92 he was a student of the private painting school by Heinrich Knirr, and then from 1892-95 studied at the Munich academy with Gabriel Hackl. He was further self-taught and influenced by the painter, art historian and painting theorist Heinrich Ludwig (1829-1897). From 1893, Edmund Steppes sent exhibitions to the Munich Art Association and from 1897 the Munich Secession. He undertook study trips through Germany, Bohemia, Switzerland and Italy. He was followed by Hans Thoma and Karl Haider and received support Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Dressler, Matrikel the Munich Academy, Glaspalastkataloge, Müller-Singe r, Bénézit, Müller-Singer, Bruckmann "Munich painters of the 19th / 20th centuries", Saur and Wikipedia....
