    Eduard Bargheer was born by Hamburg in 1901. He started studying at the art school Hamburg-Lerchenfeld but was basically self-taught. In 1925 he traveled to Italy for the first time, where he spent a lot of time in Florence. In the following years he traveled to Paris, the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK.

    From 1928 onwards Bargheer worked in his studio in his hometown and became a member of the artist group Hamburgische Sezession. He met the art historians Aby Warburg and Erwin Panofsky as well as Paul Klee. In 1940 he moved to Ischia where he witnessed the end of the Second World War.
