About Eduard Schleich II

  • Biography

Eduard Schleich II came to Munich in 1823, where Christian Morgenstern and Carl Rottmann influenced him. He endeavored to reproduce the overall impression of the natural scenery, the changing play of atmospheric processes and light. He initially devoted himself to the Alps as the main subject. In 1851 Schleich went on a study trip to Paris with Spitzweg, where the paintings of the Barbizon School inspired him to treat color more freely and impasto. The Neue Pinakothek in Munich owns a significant collection of Schleich's works.
