  • Biography from Dobiaschofsky Auktionen

Eduard Steinberg, son of a poet, already faced hostility in his childhood due to his father's imprisonment in the camps. After moving to Moscow in 1962, the self-taught artist initially focused a great deal on religious subjects related to death, burial and resurrection, which he artistically processed in an abstract geometric formal language.

In the 1970s he expanded his repertoire to include bright landscape paintings as well as gouaches and collages on cardboard. Suprematism and Constructivism influenced his work, with Kazimir Severinovich Malevich considered an important role model.

After the death of his father in 1984, the artist moved to the countryside, where he began to work on the cycle ®The Village¯. Since 1991 Eduard Arkadyevich Steinberg has lived and worked alternately in Paris, Moscow and Tarussa.
