    Edward Wilkins Waite's landscapes in oils are often of his home country in Surrey.

    Following the tradition of English landscapists like John Constable and J.W. Turner, Waite approached landscapes with a mannered naturalism, and often bathes his pieces in an idyllic golden light.

    The artistic tradition already existed in Edward Wilkins Waite's family. His grandfather, William Watkins Waite, was a miniaturist, and his father, a Congregationalist minister, did a bit of amateur watercolour painting. He was born in Letterhead, in the Surrey Hills in 1854.
