Eileen Napaljarri
  • Biography

Eileen, like many other Pintupis born before 1960, still remembers her traditional life when she surveyed the bush with her family. Her parents are important members of this ethnic group and will each play an important role in the pictorial movement.

Her father is the great Charlie Tarawa Tjungurrayi and her mother Tatali Nangala. Her artistic career really started in 2002 when she started painting regularly. Eileen is a pioneer. Very close to male artists like Kenny Williams Tjampitjinpa, she adopts a style close to these, with minimalist patterns although marked by bright and warm colors, mixed with red, yellow, orange and white. She is thus one of the first artists of the Western Desert to take this direction.
