Elisabeth Gruttefien Kiekebusch was born in 1871 in Kettwig, Germany. She studied painting with the Norwegian painter Adelsteen Normann and married the Berlin landscape artist Herman Kiekebusch in 1903. They both painted mainly Norwegian and Alpine motifs in a joint studio in Berlin-Schlachtensee.
