  • Biography

Elisabetta Marchioni was one of the most known painters of the Baroque of dead nature and active in the capital Polesano between the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century. Marchioni's work anticipated the Venetian floral patterns by Francesco Guardi, characterized by fast vessels and almost impressionistic modeling, with a base of dark-brown background, to bring out the best colors. One of the main features of Marchioni's work is the brushstroke bubbling, which defines colorful corollas. Marchioni was colleague to Margherita Caffi, with which she would often share similar compositional choices.
