The young Hublin would have had abundant opportunities to study a remarkable range of art—from Louis I of Anjou’s famous medieval Apocalypse tapestries to the art collection at the Musée des Beaux-Arts. The museum, created at the end of the eighteenth century in the wake of the French Revolution, would have been a particularly important resource for an aspiring painter living far from the riches of Parisian collections.
