About Erling Arlingsson

  • Biography

Erling Ärlingsson was a Swedish artist born in 1904 in Värmland and passed away in 1982 in Sweden. He studied at the art school Valand in Gothenburg and later in Paris. Ärlingsson was part of the group Göteborgskoloristerna and his paintings are characterized by opposite or superimposed color schemes, often with landscape motifs.

Erling was a distinct color romantic who wanted to transform the gray world into something more sensual and expressive. During the 1960s and 70s, he taught painting in Värmland and Lars Lerin was one of his students. Ärlingsson's theory of color influenced Lerin's artwork style.
