    Ernest Archibald Taylor was a versatile artist born in Greenock, Renfrewshire. In the early 1900s, he worked for Glasgow cabinet makers before marrying artist Jessie M King and moving to Manchester. Taylor managed and designed for George Wragge Ltd, specializing in stained glass. The couple later lived in Paris, where they established a school, Atelier Shealing. Settling in Kirkcudbright, they ran a summer school on the Isle of Arran. Taylor's art was influenced by modern French art, the Scottish Colourists, and the Ballets Russes. He exhibited extensively in various art institutions in Scotland and abroad.
