    Ernst Georg Ruegg, (Milan, Italy 1883 - Mannedorf, Switzerland 1948)

    Ernst Georg Ruegg was born in Milan as th oldest son of a silk industry entrepreneur, and was expected to follow in his father's footsteps. But following his father's death, Ruegg went to Zurich to study art, and later continued his studies at the Dresden academy of art.

    Later he ran a studio at Hermann Gattiker's Kunstschule für Damen (School of Art for Women). He wandered through the Swiss countryside, writing poems and painting, and fell in love with a Swiss peasant girl, leading to a split with his family.
