    Ernst Wilhelm Heinrich Eitner born 1867, died 1955. In 1881 Ernst Eitner began in an apprenticeship as a lithographer in Hamburg, where he then attended the Kunstgewerbeschule am Steintor. He later studied at the Academy in Karlsruhe. During study trips Eitner visited Italy and Norway. After a stay in the artists' colony in Gothmund he studied at the academies in Dusseldorf and Antwerp.

    In 1892 he received a first gold medal for his watercolor painting in Dresden. In 1897 Ernst Eitner founded the 'Hamburgische Künstlerklub' (Hamburg Artist Club) together with a group of young painters.
