    A German painter, Ernst Hildebrand studied in Berlin. He was known for portraits, genre, historical scene and marine painting. Among his paintings are Christ on the Mount of Olives, Queen Luise of Prussia Fleeing To Memel Away from Napoleon and Tullia, the town hall of Berlin.

    He was a son of Falkenberger manor owner and later Sorauer station master Karl Hildebrand and his wife Emma, née Lemm. He was a student of Carl Steffeck in Berlin, and then spent a year in Paris. In 1875 he became a professor at the School of Art in Karlsruhe, and from his position at the Berlin Academy, he moved in 1880 to the Academy of Arts in Berlin. However, he gave up his teaching career in 1885.
