    Eugen Gustav Dücker was born 1841 in Arensberg. He studied from 1858 to 1862 at the Academy in St. Petersburg. In 1864 he moved to Düsseldorf. There he became is the successor of the famous landscape painter Oswald Achenbach and took over the teaching of the landscape class at the Düsseldorf Art Academy.

    He is regarded as representative of the plein-air painting and encouraged his students to paint in nature. Among his students emerged famous painters such as Max Clarenbach, Otto Modersohn, Fritz Overbeck and Helmuth Liesegang as well as others.
