About Eva Cerbu

  • Biography

Eva Cerbu, a Romanian Jewish painter, was born in Bucharest in 1924. She studied under M. H. Maxy and later Al. Ciucurencu, learning modern Avant-Garde art principles. Cerbu was primarily a portraitist, known for her imaginative characters and landscapes closely tied to her portraits. Her figures had a modern geometric structure and emotional depth. Transitioning to wood and linoleum engraving, her style became angular and synthetic, reminiscent of German expressionist engraving. In her mature years, her drawings evolved to more voluminous and contemplative portraits, using a blend of techniques like pastel, oil pastel, charcoal, and more to create a unique pictorial mixture. Her work left a strong impact on viewers with indelible figures aInformation provided by the user....
