    Evgeny Aleksandrovich Lansere (also called Lanceray) was born August 24, 1848, in Morshansk and died April 4, 1886, at Neskuchne, Kharkiv Province, Ukraine. As a sculptor, Lansere was known primarily for his Russian and ethnographic genre studies, as well as animalier.

    The son of state councilor Ludwig Paul (Aleksandr) Lansere (1815-1869), Lansere grew up in a privileged noble family, entering the local gymnasium where it was noted at a young age that he was already a talented renderer of horses. In 1861 he moved to Saint Petersburg with his family, where he completed his education. In 1867 and 1876 he traveled to Paris, where he studied sculpture as well as the methodology of bronze casting.
