Evgeny Aleksandrovich Lansere (also called Lanceray) was born August 24, 1848, in Morshansk and died April 4, 1886, at Neskuchne, Kharkiv Province, Ukraine. As a sculptor, Lansere was known primarily for his Russian and ethnographic genre studies, as well as animalier.

The son of state councilor Ludwig Paul (Aleksandr) Lansere (1815-1869), Lansere grew up in a privileged noble family, entering the local gymnasium where it was noted at a young age that he was already a talented renderer of horses.
