    Exhibition Review: "Beyond Seeing,"

    This exhibit by Fabio Zolly consists of seven large format photographs. These black and white images show Benedictine monks from Admont and also Abbey employees. None of them are named, and each is shown holding a black board bearing the white lettering ‘Copyright by Fabio Zolly’ like a strip before their eyes. The images are reminiscent of police photos of criminals – in other words, mugshots.

    Mounted beside each photograph is a description of the person depicted in their own words. But these descriptions are in Braille and are thus concealed from those who do not read Braille. The whole can only be correctly construed when a blind person able to read Braille and a sighted person are toge...
