    At the age of twenty Fanny Churberg began her artistic training in Helsinki, where she was a student of Emma Gylden and Alexandra Frosterus-Saltin as well as Berndt Lindholm, who had studied at the Dusseldorf Academy and - as one of the most successful Finnish landscape painter - had a major influence on Churberg's oeuvre. In 1867 she went to Dusseldorf for the first time, where she became a student of the landscape painter Carl Ludwig. Further stays in the German city followed, during which she created works inspired by themes from her home country.
