    Folmer Bonnén was a Danish visual artist who was born in 1885 in Randers, Denmark, and died in 1960 in Copenhagen. He studied at Kristian Zahrtmann’s painting school from 1906 to 1908 and with Holger Grønvold and Rasmus Bøgebjerg. He made his debut in 1907 at the Artists’ Autumn Exhibition in Copenhagen.

    In 1909 he co-founded the artist group “De Thirteen.” As of 1918, he also led a private painting school. Bonnén painted with strong and bold coloring but later changed his palette as he agitated a “national art form.” He experimented with frescoes and invented a new technology, “Danish fresco,” where caseins were painted on cement.
