He was a fifty-six year old farmer when he began to paint pictures in a style very much like his mother's, that celebrated a fading rural life in the Adirondack Mountains in Eagle Bridge, New York. Moses did not title his paintings, but rather grouped them by season, as "spring pictures," "summer pictures," snow pictures" and so ona very natural thing for a man of the soil to do, responsive as he was as a farmer to the cycles...
