Francesco Galante was born in 1884 in Margherita di Savoia, Italy. He attended the institute of fine arts in Naples from 1896 and developed a unique style in his illustrations characterized by a new relationship between line and color. Galante's work showed influences of the Franco-Belgian taste, with large areas of pure colors outlined by double contour signs.
