Franciszek Starowieyski was born in Bratkówka near Krosno in 1930. Using the pseudonym Jan Byk,he studied in the years 1949-1952 at the Academy of Fine Arts under the supervision of professor Wojciech Weiss. He then continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, obtaining a diploma in 1955 in the studio of professor Michal Byliny. In the 1960s and 1970s, Franciszek Starowieyski gained the greatest recognition as the poster designer, in which he quickly matched the coryphees of this art field in Poland.
