    Frank Boyden (b. 1942)

    Trained as a painter, printmaker and art historian, Boyden got interested in ceramic arts around 1968 and stopped painting in 1972 to dedicate himself fully to creating and drawing on works of clay. From 1968 to 1981 he worked mostly with native materials and clays and low temperature firing techniques. During that time he received grants to study Pre-Columbian as well as contemporary ceramics in the Peruvian jungles. He also received a National Endowment for the Arts grant. In 1984 he built the sixth anagama kiln in America.
