About Frank Rudolph Paul

    A pulp magazine book cover illustrator in the 1940s including Fantastic Adventures, Frank Paul worked for publisher Hugo Gernsback, and from 1927 to 1929 did all of the covers and interior artwork for Amazing Stories, an early science fiction publication. Paul's name became so strongly associated with it that he has been called "the Father of Modern Science Fiction Illustration."(158)

    Paul was born in Austria and educated in Vienna, Paris and New York City. He came to the United States to study architecture in New York City. Unable to find a job in this area, he worked for newspapers. Then he met Hugo Gernsback, who asked him to illustrate Amazing Stories.
