In 1958 Bayer began studying at the Höhere Graphische Bundeslehr- und Versuchsanstalt in Vienna. In 1970 Franz Bayer was a member of the Künstlerhaus Vienna. Franz Bayer, was awarded the Culture Prize of the State of Lower Austria in 1986. He was appointed professor in 2013 in recognition of his life's work.
