In Paris he attended the Académie Fernand Léger and got to know, amongst others, Alberto Giacometti. In 1959, he took part at the documenta 2 in Kassel. He gained his first experience as a wall image painter when he worked for Heinrich Danioth. From 1956 to 1963, he worked alternating between Bern and Paris.
