About Frederik Marianus Kruseman

  • Biography

Frederick Kruseman (1816-1882) was born into an eminent family of artists and studied under many of the great Dutch landscapists of the Nineteenth Century School, including Koekkoek, Reekers and Roosenboom.

His winter landscapes famously depict ice-skaters and figures outdoors while a warm glow of candlelight shines from a window somewhere within the painting.

These winter scenes earned Kruseman the reputation as a successful and popular artist of the Romantic school. Kruseman’s work is represented in several museums across Europe.
