    The German landscape painter Friedrich Josef Nicolai Heydendahl studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf from the beginning of the 1860's. Later, he went to London for a couple of years before he returned to his hometown.

    His son Ludwig August Heydendahl (1876 – c. 1960) followed him in his profession, and focused on similar subjects as his farther who primarily painted winter landscapes, hunting scenes, and motifs from the Thirty Years' War.

    The artist traveled to the Netherlands, and to Norway which can be seen in his landscape paintings...
