Geoffrey Mukasa who was born in 1954 and died in 2009 is one of Uganda's most renowned artists. Having spent part of his childhood in the King's palace in Buganda he studied Fine Art in Lucknow, India and graduated with a degree in Fine Arts in 1984. He returned to Uganda in the 1980s at one of the darkest times in the country's history and worked as a graphic artist at the national television station. It wasn't until the economic and political stability of the 1990's that he was able to turn professional as an artist.
