About George Papp
Biography
George Papp (American, 1916-1989), began his freelance career as a comic artist with DC Comics (then known as National) in 1938. Over the next 30 years, he primarily worked with DC although he did contribute some work at Columbia Comics and Harvey Comics.
He was co-creator on Congo Bill with Whitney Ellsworth and on his best-known character Green Arrow with Mort Weisinger. After a short stint in the Army during World War II, he returned to DC and Green Arrow and later picked up work as the primary artist on Superboy until he left comics. It was during his second tenure with DC that he drew the first appearance of Bizarro in Superboy #68 and Mon-El in Superboy #89.
