    An important Canadian painter and draftsman, George Theodore Berthon was born in Vienna, Austria to French parents and died in Toronto, Ontario where he had lived since the early 1840s. Shortly after his birth his family returned to their home in Paris where Berthon grew up. In 1827 he moved to London, England.
