    In 1945, Georges le Poitevin received the Ab-el-Tif prize in Algiers, the equivalent for traveling painters of the Prix de Rome at the Villa Médicis. He participates twice in the Henri Lhote mission in the Tassili, Algeria, where he surveys parietal frescoes.

    Then he settled permanently in Algeria where he became curator of the Tipaza Museum-Site near Algiers. He participated in many exhibitions, including the one organized at the Marsan Pavilion "Prehistoric Paintings of the Sahara" in 1957.
