    Born in Balsall Heath, England on July 30, 1848. Georgiana L'Aubinere was the daughter of English watercolorist John Steeple. After years of art study in England, she took up residence in Paris where she met artist Constant de L'Aubiniére. After their marriage in 1874, they toured extensively in France and England before coming to the U.S. in 1882.

    For seven years they painted and exhibited from coast to coast. During 1885-86, the couple were in San Francisco and advertised as portrait and landscape painters. The L'Aubiniéres then moved to Canada. There she and her husband are said to have "taken Victoria by storm" and were commissioned by the government to paint a series of 14 oils for presenta
