    Swedish artist Gerda Roosval-Kallstenius was born in 1864. Gerda studied at the Art Academy from 1885-1891 and continued studies in France and Italy over the next three years.

    In 1889 Gerda was awarded the ducal medal, and then from 1890-1891 she received the Ribbingska scholarship at the academy.
    In 1891 she married the artist and professor Godfrey Kallstenius.

    Roosval's nature to nature studies in the awakening outdoor painting spirit. A stay at the beginning of the 1890's in the rich art traditions Grez-sur-Loing in France had given her lasting impression.
