A graduate of the San Francisco State University M.A. program, Gil Dellinger became a full professor at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, where he taught courses in drawing and painting. After receiving the Distinguished Faculty Award for professional contributions and teaching excellence in 1990, and the Everhart Teacher/Scholar Award in 1995, Dellinger retired from teaching in 2000.

He then was named a trustee of the Haggin Museum in Stockton, and was active in organizing a series of plein-air exhibitions. One of them was a three-year project in Yosemite Valley in which 25 artists painted the park within that time period. An exhibition of these works was held at the Haggin in 2001. Following 9/11, Dellinger and painter John Cosby from Laguna curated a plein-air exhibition titled "From Sea to Shining Sea" that traveled to nine museums.

Dellinger has been appointed a Signature Member and Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of America, and has been represented in over 40 exhibitions across the country including the 1997 Forbes Magazine Exhibition in New York (Bronze Award recipient). His landscapes record the luminous colors in the land and sky, dramatizing their appearance by simplifying forms and emphasizing the relationship between light and shadow.

Artist Statement:
It has been my goal from the beginning of my career to say something positive and meaningful about this country. Since 1988 I have been painting the landscape and I am constantly moved by the grandeur and power and majesty of this land. God's marvelous hand is so obvious and I am fulfilled and feel part of that Mystical Beauty when I am out working in it. It is therefore that I consider my work to be consecrated to something grander than myself, which gives it purpose and meaning.

Until 1988 I painted mostly western historical subject matter and did a number of
pieces on the Battle of the Little Big Horn, one of which is in the collection of the
National Monument Museum. I undertook pastel in 1988 and changed my subject
matter to current subjects and painted figures, still life and landscape. During that
time I began to have real success with my landscapes and had a number of
exhibitions in the Bay Area.

I started teaching at the University of the Pacific in Stockton California in 1973 and
taught drawing, figure drawing, illustration, printmaking, and some art history. I
attained a rank of full professor, and in 1991 won the Universities Distinguished
Faculty Award, for teaching excellence and professional contribution in my field. My pastel work was gaining some national attention and I won awards at the Pastel
Society of America, and was eventually named as Signature Member and Master
Pastelist.

Through my work with the Pastel Society I met Stephen Doherty, the Editor of
"American Artist Magazine". As a result I have been part of a number of articles,
including a feature in October 1996 and 3 other articles.

I have been invited on several events hosted by the Forbes Family; one in Colorado
at the Forbes Ranch and one in Normandy at the Forbes chateau. These were
painting excursions later covered by their magazine, "Forbes". These events led to a trip sponsored by the Grand Canyon Trust, where 15 artists painted our way down
the canyon, and the show has been held at the Forbes Magazine Gallery in New York City. Proceeds from the exhibit have been donated to the Trust for help in
preservation efforts for the Canyon.

I recently was named a trustee of the Haggin Museum in Stockton California. I have
curated and coordinated several expeditions to Yosemite and the Eastern Sierra.
The show opened October 19, 2001, with 27 major contemporary impressionists
and realists. Each artist had four works. The list of artists appears above. It has been a major undertaking, and will be covered with a full feature in "Art of the West" magazine.
