    Gottfried Brockmann was a German painter, draughtsman, and graphic artist who was trained as a house painter but began working as an autodidact artist and came in contact with the Dada group 'Stupid'. He began studying at the Düsseldorf academy in 1926 and became a master student of H. Campendonk in 1928. He worked as a teacher at the academy from 1932 but was dismissed soon after the Nazis took over.

    In 1952, Brockmann settled in Kiel, where he taught at the Muthesius-Kunstschule from 1954, and became a professor in 1975.
