    Grant Redden biographical photo
Living in Lyman, Wyoming, Grant Redden is a landscape painter who grew up on a sheep ranch. For some years he was a real-estate appraiser before devoting himself exclusively to his painting in the mid 1990s.

Art critic Susan Hallsten McGarry writes: "Grant Redden takes oils into the landscape where he sets himself up to evaluate every subtlety and nuance that presents itself . . . to freeze a moment in time."

  • Biography from Claggett/Rey Gallery

Grant Redden lives and paints in southwestern Wyoming in the rural community of Hilliard with his wife and family. With no formal art training, he has studied under the tutelage of several master artists in today's art world: Mark Daily, Jim Norton, Walt Gonske, Gerald Fritzler, Gerald Merfeld. He has also immersed himself in the study of deceased artists and draws much inspiration from the works of Sargent, Sorolla, Fechin, Monet, Carpentier, and others.

Grant's subject matter varies from landscape to Western themes to still life. Growing up working sheep and cattle on his fathers ranch, Grant is familiar with the horse and rural life of the West. Working in oil, watercolor, and pastel, he has developed a sense and style all his own but the influence of his mentors is felt in the broad range of textures in his paintings and colors on his pallet. In addition to depicting traditional Western life and landscapes, Grant has traveled abroad to Italy, Mexico, Ireland, and Brittany.

Over the years, Grant participated in several shows including the Northwest Rendezvous Artist Group of Helena, Montana (2000); the Springville Art Museum Spring Salon; the Salon D'Arts Le Jeune Exhibition, Denver, Colorado (2005); the Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale, Denver, Colorado (2006); and the annual Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale in Cody, Wyoming for the past four years. In 2000, Grant was included in the first Rising Stars show in Wickenburg, Arizona. In addition, Grant's work has been displayed at the Charles Russell Museum and the Art for the Sangres in Westcliffe, Colorado.
