Like most artists at this time, he traveled eventually to Paris where he studied with the great masters Rigaud, Largillière and Troy, but it was the artist Rosalba Carriera that would affect his style and technique most. She visited Paris in 1720-21 and was the one who introduced pastel which immediately became fashionable.
