    Gustave Max Stevens, born in 1871 in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode and died in 1946 in Brussels, is a Belgian painter.

    Painter of portraits, landscapes and still lifes, Gustave Max Stevens also practiced lithography, pastel. He was the student of Jean-François Portaels at the School of Fine Arts in Brussels from 1886 and remained there four years in painting class. He studied under Fernand Cormon at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He co-founded and presided over Le Sillon, artistic movement of visual arts, founded in 1893 in Brussels. This circle wwas originally composed of young artists from the Brussels Academy who wanted to counterbalance neo-impressionism.
