    Hans Bauer was born in 1883 in Drebkau im Spreewald. He studied around 1906 at the Berlin Academy and from 1910-14 took further training at the Weimar Academy with Hans Olde and Fritz Mackensen. Hans turned to animal painting, inspired by Albin Egger-Lienz. From 1914-18 he served as a volunteer in World War I. He received parallel support from the imperial family, and then from 1918 worked in Weimar Freelance. In 1932 he was appointed as professor and was later awarded the Great Medal of Honor of the City of Weimar. From 1933-45 he served as country director of the NS-Kunstkammer Thuringia. Hans was a member of the Reich Association of Fine Artists of Germany and 1st Chairman of the Thuringian Exhibitors Association.
