From 1920-1927 he was a student of Julius Wohlers at the School of Applied Arts in Hamburg. Hans was a member of the Hamburg Artist Association in 1932 and the Professional Association of Visual Artists of Hamburg. He once took a study trip by bicycle to Paris. In 1938 he had an apartment in Steilshoop, then lived on floor Rosenweg 20 in Hamburg-Bramfeld. His partner Margaret Klages took care of the maintenance.
