    Hans Sandreuter - Fin de Siècle in Basel After training as a lithographer, Hans Sandreuter was admitted to the Munich Academy in October 1870. In the spring of 1871 he went to Munich, but he did not even think about doing studies at the art school, but immediately moved on to Italy. After all, he visited the Pinakotheken and the Schackgalerie in Munich, where he saw works by Arnold Böcklin, whom he had already worshiped in Basel.

    It was not until 1873, after his return from Italy and a short stay in his hometown of Basel, that he returned to Munich to study at the Academy. This is where the first paintings are to be found, testifying to his ties to the Dachau School and Wilhelm Leibl's circle, but in 1875 Sandreute...
