    Hans Strobl was a South Tyrolean painter, glass window designer, draftsman and etcher born in 1913 in Bezau. From 1930-34, he was a student at the Innsbruck School of Applied Arts with Heinrich Comploj and studied from 1936-40 at the Vienna Academy with Carl Fahringer, Hans Larwin and Herbert Boeckl. From 1940-41 Strobl worked as a war painter in the Second World War in the Balkans, Greece and Scandinavia. In 1945 Hans became husband of the painter Franzi Purgstaller-Strobl (1915-2005).
