Harald Metzkes 1929 Bautzen - lives in Altlandsberg German painter. 1945 still in military service. Initially 1947-49 stonemason apprenticeship with sculptor Max Rothe. 1949-53 studied painting at the HfBK Dresden under Wilhelm Lachnit and Rudolf Bergander. 1955-58 Master student at the German Academy of Arts in Berlin under Otto Nagel. 1957 Trip to China. Worked as a freelance artist in East Berlin from 1959, where his first solo exhibition took place in 1963. The following year, he received the GDR National Prize for Illustration and Graphics for the exhibition "Harald Metzkes - Pictures from 20 Years". 1976 Käthe Kollwitz Prize of the Berlin Academy of Arts. 1977 National Prize of the GDR for Illustration and Graphics. 1984 a...
