    Henri Pontoy was a French artist who trained at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris. He was attracted to the Orient and made various trips to the Maghreb before settling in Fez, Morocco in 1927. He participated in the artistic life of the country through art exhibitions and became known for his depictions of daily life in Morocco, particularly in his famous souk scenes. He witnessed the passage of turbaned men and veiled women in a market alley illuminated by a few spots of light, opening into a beautiful perspective....
