About Henry Speller

    Henry Speller (1900-1997), was born in the Central Mississippi Delta region. He dropped out of school at twelve and began working on the local farms. He taught himself to draw, but was also a talented guitar player and noted blues man playing with such notables as Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters. His drawing are drawn from his surroundings and are generally formed from pencil sketches that he would fill in with colored crayon. Speller is hung in the Outsider collections at the High Museum of Atlanta and the Smithsonian.
