    A close friend of Auguste Rodin, sculptor Henryk Glicenstein was born in Poland and taught in Rome during the last decade of the 19th century. Upon visiting Rodin's studio at the turn of the century, Glicenstein came to be regarded as an equal by Rodin who nominated him to the French Salon where they exhibited together. Glicenstein won the Prix de Rome from the Ecole des Beaux Arts, which allowed him to attend the Academy of Rome.

    He also lived in New York and exhibited there in the 1920s with the Society of Independent Artists and at the National Academy of Design.
