Born in Marseilles in October 1936, Herve Fenouil was interested in pictorial art from a young age. As a child, he closely observed the art at his grandparents' house, and at five years old, he was already sketching farm and market scenes with a precision and an understanding of perspective very unusual in one so young.

Art continued to be his main interest, and throughout his childhood, he reproduced all things that enchanted him - the sea, boats, seasons, the wind - everything from the winter cold in Provence or the warmth of the summer sun by the sea, with all the changes between shade and light.
